Nagpur: Nagpur is the winter capital and the third largest city of Maharashtra. Also known as the ‘Orange City’ due to its famous Nagpur orange, the city is one of the fastest growing cities in India. As an emerging metropolis, it has become one of the main centres of economy of Maharashtra in the past few years. In the 2012 report by the Institute for Competitiveness, Nagpur was ranked as the 11thmost competitive city of India.

When it comes to employment opportunities in Nagpur, the presence of large industrial companies and Information Technology (IT) parks contributes to the larger portion of these. The economic importance of Nagpur goes back to its early days as a well-known trading location. With the establishment of IT parks, a great number of big multi-national companies have also made their base here, putting Nagpur in the technological scenario of the country.

Gone are the days when students from Nagpur had difficulty in finding good jobs, with the infrastructural development that is taking place in the city. The Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport (MIHAN) at Nagpur is the biggest economical development of India currently underway in terms of investment. It consists of two parts –(a) an international airport to act as a cargo hub and (b)a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) with a covering area of 40.52 square km. Some of the big IT companies like TCS, Wipro Technologies, HCL and Tech Mahindra are building its offices here. This will lead to a large number of employments for the students in this city.

MIDC Industrial Areas
Nagpur is a prominent area for power sector as compared to the rest of Maharashtra. The Butibori industrial estate is the largest in terms of area in Asia. Major power and manufacturing companies like NTPC, Gammon India Limited, and Mahindra and Mahindra are present here which employs a large amount of workers in their plants and manufacturing units.

Mining Activities
Mining is another important economical activity here, including big mining companies like Western Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, is present in this area. This is also provides a number of employment opportunities in the region.

Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC)
MPSC conducts recruitment process for the state civil services and other government positions in various offices. As Nagpur is one of the administrative regions of the state, there are a number of government offices which provides opportunities for those seeking to get government jobs.

Nagpur has always been a great centre for higher education with a number of engineering and medical colleges. Every year, a large number of students from different parts of the country vie to get into one of the reputed institutes here.
