solar waterNagpur: The first solar power operated mini-water supply plant of Maharashtra has been commissioned in Hingna village of Mouda Taluka in Nagpur district.

The major objective of the plant is to facilitate villagers to get pure water supply for a very low cost which can easily be borne by the Gram Panchayat. A private organisation, Rite Water Solutions, has installed the unit in the village on an experimental basis, under the supervision of the Zilla Parishad authorities.

As per the reports, the system delivers 10,000 litres of purified water every day and runs completely on solar power. A total of 1800 Watt panels have been installed under the project.

Here are some of the advantages of the solar power operated water supply plant:

  • In order to prevent water borne diseases caused by nitrate present in the ground water, the unit purifies the water by removing nitrate content. The problem of impure water is prominent in Vidarbha region, where nitrate content is more than four times the acceptable level, majorly because of the use of fertilizers for agriculture
  • The purified water will be made available to the people at a very low cost, thus cutting the hefty water supply bills
  • The plant uses an effective and environment-friendly cleaner technology that serves the very need of people at grass root level
  • Based completely on solar power, the plant will not only help in the conservation of energy, but will also lead to no environmental damage or pollution in the process.
