India’s Spanish basketball coach clinic on Jan 11, 12 in Nagpur

Francisco Garcia coach spainNagpur: The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) will conduct a two-day training programme in the city from January 11 and 12.

Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) in collaboration with the BFI will be organizsng this coaching clinic at the Shankar Nagar based Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) courts.

Women National basketball head coach Francisco Garcia of Spain will be in the city to guide selected players in four sessions wherein the experienced Spanish coach may recommend players to the BFI. If recommended, then these talented hoopsters will be picked for the national camps of BFI held in various age categories.

The programme is a unique initiative of the BFI to identify talented hoopsters at the grass root level. The special clinic was materialized due to the efforts of CEO of the BFI Roopam Harish Sharma, NDBA president Sandip Joshi and DKM officials.

Coach Garcia brings along with him over 20 years of professional coaching experience in the Spain, Denmark, and Finland. Since returning to Spain in 2005, Garcia coached various Spanish Federation Youth National Development Camps, in addition to acting as a private development coach for a number of Spain’s senior national women’s players, including three-time WNBA champion Amaya Valdermoro.

A year after Indian men’s team head coach Scott Flemming conducted coaching session in the city, this will be the second time city hoopsters will get an opportunity to showcase their talent to a head coach of the Indian basketball women team.
