As the sale of liquor remains prohibited on August 15, the alert patrolling squad of Ganeshpeth police station here in the city nabbed a gang of liquor smugglers at about 3.45 pm on Aug 15 red-handed and seized the smuggled stock of liquor, being carried in a maroon-coloured Tata Indigo car No. MH 34/ K 3179, and also in while coloured Honda scooter No MH 31/ TC 372, which were speeding towards Ganjipeth Haj House.
The liquor smugglers were identified as Imran Khan Hamid Khan, age 24, resident of Ganjipeth, under jurisdiction of Ganeshpeth police station and Tausif Sheikh Ajiz Sheikh, age 29, resident of Ashirvad Nagar, Motha Tajbagh under jurisdiction of Sakkardara police station. During search the police recovered liquor as follows: a) Officers Choice whisky 218 bottles of 180 ml each, b) OC Blue 48 bottles of 180 ml each, c) Master Blend 56 bottles of 90 ml each, and 2 bottles of 750 ml each; total value being Rs 33,050 and seized vehicles worth Rs 2,60,000, in all Rs 2,93,050.
The police has slapped offence under section 65 (A) (E) of Maharashtra Prohibition Act and registered case No. 6023 of 2015 against both the accused. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had stolen the liquor from Apsara Bar and Restaurant, under jurisdiction of Ambazari police station, on the night of Aug 13. Having Known it, the police also slapped against them the offences under sections 454, 457 and 380 IPC and registered case No. 232/ 15 against them.
Those who executed the police action under the guidance of senior PI A A Sheikh of Ganeshpeth PS included PSI A P Taksande, PSI P G Gadekar, PHC Madhukar Shirke, PCs Pravin Gorthe, Snjay Raisen, Sunit Gujar, Chandu Thakre, Sharad Chambhare, Hemant Lonare, Umakant Nagdeve, Vivek Rathod and Suryakant Ingle.
