Stock of hazardous Slice, Pepsi cold drinks seized by FDA, trader booked

Nagpur: A trader dealing in cold drinks was booked by Jaripatka police on the charges of selling branded cold drinks despite expiry of dates and thus posing grave health hazards to the consumers. A stock of hazardous Slice and Pepsi bottles worth Rs 8.19 lakh has been seized from the possession of the accused trader.

Acting on a tip-off, a squad of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) carried out a raid on the accused trader Vishal Rajesh Bhotwani, resident of Plot No. 126, Vishwas Nagar, Hudco Colony, who runs a firm named Sai Trading from the same address. The raiding FDA squad found the trader possessing an expired stock of Slice and Pepsi cold drinks worth Rs 8.19 lakh for the purpose of sale. The ‘poisonous’ cold drinks could have posed serious health hazards of unprecedented magnitude to the consumers. But still the accused trader was found selling the cold drinks. The stock was seized by the FDA.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by FDA, Jaripatka API K D Wagh has booked the trader under Sections 420, 468, 472, 273 of IPC and launched a probe into the matter.
