Two locals among 55 graduates conferred MBA degree at IIM Convocation

As many as 55 graduates, including two local students – were conferred the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees at the third Convocation Ceremony of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur on Monday.

The ceremony was held at Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines where founder of Future Group Kishore Biyani was the chief guest. Chairman; Board of Governors, IIM Nagpur; C P Gurnani, who is also CEO and MD; Tech Mahindra and Director; Prof L S Murty graced the occasion.

Two students were awarded gold medals at the ceremony. Vaibhav Gupta was honoured with the gold for Best Scholastic Performance while Yash Pramod Thakur- a Nagpur lad – was awarded the gold for Best All-Round Performance.

Mr. Biyani in his speech enlightened the students with his past experience and the principles the Future Group follows. He said Future Group focuses on right beliefs and values. He advised the fresh graduates that to overcome the daily challenges in any business and march on the path of success you must rewrite the rules but at the same time retain the values.

Talking to media persons, Mr. Biyani said there is a reverse trend in the market today. Earlier, people would get educated in India and go for jobs abroad. Now the situation is just opposite, Indians working abroad are coming back for jobs in India.

He rubbished the claim that there are is dearth of jobs in India. Certainly, there are multiple job opportunities in India, in multiple disciplines. One should not generalise an opinion. Every discipline has its own requirements and thus offers openings, he added.

Earlier, Mr. Gurnani awarded the degrees and gold medals to the graduates of the prestigious B school. He also shared his experience with the students besides giving them tips to be successful managers.

Prof Murty in his address informed about the achievements and the efforts taken by IIM Nagpur during the last academic year.
