Nagpur docs shun non-emergency services to oppose ‘mixopathy’

Nagpur: Participating in a nation-wide protest being held against the proposed amalgamation of allopathy with ayurveda, homoeopathy and other medical disciplines, members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) closed all non-emergency medical services on Friday from 6 am to 6 pm in Nagpur.

Protesting against the ‘mixopathy’ — which allows ayurvedic practitioners to use and prescribe modern medicine and above all grant them rights to perform general surgery in ophthalmology, ENT, etc — being promoted by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), doctors attached to IMA Nagpur had already hold peaceful protest at prominent squares in the Second Capital of the State on December 8.

Doctors in the small groups, wearing white coats and holding posters and banners against the notification that allows ayurveda post graduate students to conduct 58 types of surgeries were seen on this occasion.
