Nagpur: In a sensational incident, two young lovers ended their lives in a suicide pact in Lakadganj area on Thursday night.
The deceased have been identified as Deepika Dilip Singh (18) and Sonu Habib Sheikh (21). Deepika was staying with her mother as tenant of Namdeo Wankhede in Bhaurao Nagar. Her two brothers are doing jobs in Pune. Sonu was residing in Subhan Nagar, Pardi. Both Deepika and Sonu were in love since past many days. Sonu frequently visited Deepika’s house that bothered her mother as she was against her daughter’s relationship with the boy. But Deepika often cold shouldered her mother’s objection. On Wednesday (February 15) night Sonu came to Deepika’s house and both went out for food. They returned home in the wee hours of Thursday. Since Deepika’s mother knew that both will sleep for the entire day, she did not bother to wake them up.
However, when Deepika did not come out of her room till 8.30 pm, her mother knocked door and called her. But she did not get any response. She immediately informed the landlord Namdeo Wankhede. Wankhede peeped from partially open window and was dumbfounded. Both Deepika and Sonu were found hanging to ceiling fan with an odhni around their necks. The suicide pact sent tremors across the area. Neighbours alerted Lakadganj Police Station. PI Satyawan Mane and his team rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Mayo Hospital for autopsy.
Cops did not find any suicide note sparking speculations over reason behind the extreme step of Deepika and Sonu.
Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the sensational suicide pact.
Prima facie, opposition from family members about their relationship seems to have driven Sonu and Deepika to suicide pact.
