Nagpur:
An “alert” woman’s “clever” attempt to dodge masquerading chain-snatchers unfortunately boomeranged as she was still robbed of her ‘mangalsutra’ along with a mobile and cash collectively valued at Rs 1 lakh. The daylight theft took place at the busy Golibar Square area of Tehsil.

Apparently well aware of increasing incidents of chain-snatching in city, Karuna Ravindra Bhagatkar (28), resident of near Bagal Akhada, Pachpaoli, kept her ‘mangalsutra,’ mobile phone and cash of Rs 2000 in the dicky of her two-wheeler (MH-49/V 2703) on Thursday and went to pick up her son from Galaxy Convent near Golibar Square. Around 12 noon, Karuna parked her two-wheeler near HDFC Bank ATM and went to fetch her son from the school. In the meanwhile, an unidentified miscreant broke open the dicky of the two-wheeler and burgled the “mangalsutra,’ mobile phone and cash collectively valued at Rs 1 lakh. The theft came to notice of Karuna when returned to her two-wheeler and found the dicky open. Obviously her attempt to hoodwink the chain-snatchers failed miserably.

Tehsil PSI Dhakulkar, based on Karuna’s complaint, has booked the unidentified burglar under Section 379 of the IPC and searching for him.
