Nagpur: Acute shortage of water and haphazard supply by tankers led to a high-tempered ruckus when a man virtually “hijacked” a water tanker and later molested a woman sarpanch charging her of bias.

The accused man also threatened to kill the woman sarpanch and her husband over ‘partiality’ in distribution of water by tankers. The incident took place in Nandanvan Police Station jurisdiction on Tuesday afternoon. The accused has been booked.

According to police sources, the trouble started when the driver of a water tanker phoned the woman sarpanch and informed her that the accused Pramod Kature has detained the water tanker in front of his house and protesting the ‘biased’ distribution of water.

Taken aback by the development, the woman sarpanch (40) along with members of Gram Panchayat rushed to the scene. As soon as the woman sarpanch reached the spot the accused Pramod Kature ‘greeted’ her with filthy abuses and charged her of distributing water to her “own” people. Saying these offending words, the accused Pramod Kature caught hold of the woman sarpanch’s hand and indulged in vulgar actions. The accused even threatened to kill the woman sarpanch and her husband over “partiality” in water supply.

API Kamde has booked the accused under Sections 354, 394, 506 of IPC and probing the matter further.
