VNIT students stand united against ragging

A program on anti-raggingawareness was organized for engineering students of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), in co-ordination with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). Around 300 engineering students attended the program.

Dr G P Singh, Dean of Students Wing VNIT read out welcome address. Advocate P K Sathianathan explained about the offence punishable under the provision of Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act 1999. In which committing ragging was an offence punishable with two years of imprisonment and fine up to Rs 10,000.

Senior Civil Judge and DLSA Secretary Kishore Jaiswal, acknowledged engineering students about ragging. He said it was a reprehensible act which is not good to anyone.

He opined that any student convicted of an offence of ragging should be dismissed from educational institution and should not be admitted in any other educational institution fora period of five years. However, if the head of an educational institution failed or neglected to take an action when a complaint of ragging was made, such person should be abetted for the offence of ragging.

Dr N S Chaudhari, Director of VNIT, while interacting with students of VNIT told to approach their juniors in a very friendly manner and prohibit ragging. He informed to follow the affidavits filed by the students regardingAnti-Ragging Committee which was formed at VNIT.

Vignesh Venkatachalam, Representative of Students Council, conducted the program, while Dr D H Lahate, Vice Dean of Students Wing, proposed vote of thanks.
