Vilas Muttemwar’s tireless efforts bear fruits, Tertiary Cancer Care Center to be in GMCH

Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, in a letter sent to Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar, stated that  the Central Government has sanctioned establishment of Tertiary Care Cancer Center (TCCC) in GMCH and also granted Rs 45 crore for the same.

Vilas-MuttemwarNagpur News: The years of tireless efforts put in by Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar for development of Nagpur’s Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on the lines of Delhi’s AIIMS and setting up of a Cancer Institute have bore fruits. The Central Government has sanctioned establishment of Tertiary Care Cancer Center (TCCC) in GMCH and also granted Rs 45 crore for the same. The contribution of Central Government would be 75 per cent and the State Government would bear 25 percent of the total cost. A detailed proposal in this connection has been sought from the State Government, said a letter sent by Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar.

Muttemwar, on November 30, 2013, had drawn attention of the Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad towards setting up of a Cancer Institute in the GMHC. Subsequently, Azad sent a letter to Muttemwar in this regard wherein he stated that the Central Government has decided to strengthen the network of Tertiary Care Cancer Centers at national-level and State Cancer Institutes (SCIs) at State-level. Accordingly, a Tertiary Care Cancer Center would be set up in the GMCH and a grant of Rs 45 crore has been sanctioned for the same, the letter said.

Finally, the years of tireless efforts of Vilas Muttemwar have succeeded and now the Cancer Institute would be established in GMCH soon.
