Thousands join galaxy of dignitaries in grand celebration of World Yoga Day in city

Nagpur: Thousands of citizens of all ages joined a galaxy of dignitaries in celebrating Third International Yoga Day across the city. The main event was organised at Yeshwant Stadium by Nagpur Municipal Corporation with cooperation of various Yoga organisations including Janardan Swami Yogabhyasi Mandal, Wonders Unity Yogabhyasi Mandal, Viraat Yoga Sammelan, Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya, Amit Sporting, NCC and others.

The Yoga Day celebration at Yeshwant Stadium was graced by Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari, Guardian Minister Chandrashekhr Bawankule, Janardan Swami Yogabhyasi Mandal’s executive and senior Yog Guru Rambhau Khandwe, Mayor Nanda Jichkar, Deputy Mayor Deepraj Pardikar, Rajya Sabha members Ajay Sancheti, Dr Vikas Mahatme, ZP President Neesha Savarkar, MLCs Anil Sole, Nago Ganar, Girish Vyas, Prakash Gajbhiye, Jogendra Kawade, MLAs Sudhakar Kohale, Sudhakar Deshmukh, Krishna Khopde, Vikas Kumbhare, Dr Milind Mane, Ruling Party Leader in NMC Sandeep Joshi, Opposition Leader Tanaji Vanve, Divisional Commissioner Anupkumar, Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham, Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal, District Collector Sachin Kurve, NIT Chairman Dr Deepak Mhaisekar, ZP CEO Dr Kadambari Balkawde and others.


Speaking on the occasion, Gadkari said, “Yoga practice gives a boost to Yoga awareness and it also brings a change in the life-style. We should be determined to spread the awareness about Yoga. Today, International Yoga Day is being celebrated by millions of people worldwide including China, Pakistan. Yoga has gained international recognition and reputation. Facility for Yoga practice has been arranged in the Gardens of NMC and citizens should also organize ‘Yogasadhana’ classes in their localities, schools and colleges. International Yoga Day should be celebrated as a day of commitment to spread Yoga awareness”, Gadkari stressed.


Yogasanas were demonstrated by trainers of Janardan Swami Yogabhyasi Mandal. Yoga and Meditation practicals were also performed by the Art of Living, Sahyog Yoga Centre, Bapunagar Gymkhana and Unity Sports Association. All these programmes received a spontaneous response by citizens, school students who had thronged the venue in large numbers. Presence of Yoga exponents from abroad was the special attraction of the event.

On the occasion, Gadkari also administered the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s oath of Cleanliness & Waste Segregation to the yoga practitioners.
