A small road side restaurant with the somewhat strange name of Solid Tandoori sells one of the best Biryanis in the city, better than what one gets in many fine dining restaurants!
Unbelievable?
That is what we thought when we heard its praise; but once we had tried it ourselves, we were bowled over.
Long and soft grains of rice, interspersed with tender pieces of mutton/ chicken, fried onion, subtle flavours of garam masala. And costing only Rs. 200/ for full plate of mutton and Rs. 150/ for chicken. (Half plate is Rs. 110/ and Rs. 80/ respectively). The rice quantity is so generous that even half plate is more than enough for 2 persons. In fact even if you order one full plate , they give it to you in two separate half packs. Accompanied by curry, sour butter milk and onion salad.
The tandoori and kebab items are also many and interesting. Specially the Chicken Malai tikka which has a generous layering of melted cheese and also hint of peanuts.
Apart from Punjabi and dhaba style food, there is a big list of Chinese snacks, noodles, chop sueys and fried rice too. We did not try any but by the way it was being ordered, seems popular with regular customers as well.
Just like biryani, other prices are reasonable too. Tandoori roti is just for Rs. 10, plain Nan Rs. 15, and butter Nan Rs. 25/. Chinese dishes are priced from Rs. 40/ to Rs. 150/ max.
Everything on the menu is considerately given in choice of full and half!
The only negative thing we can say about the place is that its not at all a place where you can take your family and dine! They do have about 4-5 tables and there were ladies too enjoying the food, but the young and ready- to- ‘rough it out’ types. Besides, it is right on the Katol road with lots of traffic passing by.
That is why they also encourage home delivery or pick up. There is free home delivery when you order above Rs. 400/
