A sky diving demonstration was held at Headquarters Maintenance Command, Vayusena Nagar on 24 Nov 2014 at 1100 hrs as a publicity campaign to encourage and motivate the youth students to look up to Indian Air Force as a career option. Students from a number of schools and higher educational institutions of Nagpur witnessed the demonstration.
Indian Air Force aims to promote adventure activities which include spectrum of disciplines on land, in air and water. The sky diving demonstrations are conducted by Air Headquarters (Directorate of Adventure) as a part of publicity campaign at different places across the country. The event at Nagpur on 24 Nov 2014 was conceptualized and planned by Air Vice Marshal VS Bharti YSM VM VSM, Senior Air and Administrative Staff Officer, Headquarters Maintenance Command, Indian Air Force. Wing Commander Asha Jyothirmai also from Headquarters Maintenance Command, who herself is a para jumper, was the Chief Co-ordinator of the event.
AVM VS Bharti YSM VM VSM, SAASO, HQ MC, and AVM JV Singh AOLM, HQ MC, graced the occasion. In addition Air Warriors, Air Force Civilians and their families, approximately 750 students of various schools and colleges from Nagpur City witnessed the event which has given real glimpses of this adventure.
Wing Commander Samir S Gangakhedkar, PRO (Def) Nagpur intimated that the event not only showcased the adventure activities in IAF but was also aimed at igniting the passion for adventure among children and youth. Precise landing by the “Air Devils” speaks volumes about the training, capability and calibre of the “Men and Women in Blue”.
The interactions of “Air Devils” with enthusiastic children and spectators after the landing turned out to be spectacular sight. The Sky Diving Team comprises of Wg Cdr EKN Swaroop, Wg Cdr T Asha Jyothirmai, Flt SK Swami, MWO D Singh, MWO Ravi Yadav, MWO APS Tomer, Sgt CL Fernades, Sgt Santosh Kumar, Sgt D Chakroborthi, Cpl B Singh, Cpl Bhaskar Sharma. The event was compered by Ms Hemlata Mishra and Sqn Ldr Shweta with aplomb.
