When in the mood for some good dhaba food most of us head to the Wardha road which is dotted with dhabas and Saoji eateries.

Among the clutter of such restaurants we have tried umpteen times comes a jewel, a treasure to really treasure.

Singh Saab not only stands out for its great, tasteful and soothing ambiance, but also finger licking Punjabi food. Some Chinese dishes are on offer too.

Singh Saab opened in Nagpur just about 6 months ago, but the unusual thing about this place and its owners is that they have taken Customer feedback very seriously and gone on improving and changing anything that struck a discordant note. The place is constantly evolving – for the better! That is why you will find it packed even on weekday evenings.

A die hard customer says in his review: “I’ve been to Singh Saab 4 times till now and they’ve impressed me every time by being consistent with their food quality and taste. The first time we went the food was just nice. The three visits after that they’ve managed to hit the ball out of the park every time. Basically whenever a family member or friend is visiting Nagpur now I end up taking them to Singh Saab and I worry that it won’t live up to the hype I’ve created but they always deliver.”

Their most popular dishes seem to be chicken and paneer kebabs, tandoori chicken, butter chicken and bhuna mutton. We found the fish tikka interesting too.

But the best part about Singh Saab is the great ambiance. Though it is on the highway, it is well camouflaged behind the Singhs’ petrol pump and so away from the din and noise of the heavy vehicles that ply on the highway.

There is abundant car parking inside, bang opposite the entrance to the restaurant, so one doesn’t have to park on the highway and trek to it.

The restaurant area is well laid out and done up tastefully. There is garden seating, a private hut for a big group, and a double storeyed ‘galleria’ that is open on both sides. Minute water jets/ humidifiers are fitted across these areas which keep the atmosphere cool and breezy even at the height of summer.

There is an alcove in a corner with antique furniture from Hyderabad for family ‘photo sessions’ and there is children’s play area with a real truck cabin fitted with colourful lights for their amusement.

But the best feature we liked was the open kitchen. (Not literally open, but glass fronted so completely open to public view and scrutiny.)

On our maiden visit we found a lady very busy in the kitchen, turned out she was Mini Alag, wife of the owner. She said one of their family members, either she, her son or her husband is always there to supervise.

Prices, as the menu will show are moderate ranging from Rs. 200/ to a max of Rs. 500 or so for prawns.

Remember, with the look of a posh dhaba, this is actually a fine dining place.

So next time the weather is clement, you want to go on a nice long drive, yet want luxury of a nice city restaurant too, plus great food, head out to Singh Saab!
