‘SHAPATH SABHA’ organised to oppose LBT- Octroi

Nagpur News :  As per appeal of Federation of Associations of Maharashtra to all traders & citizens, Political Parties who may extend their support to abolish LBT, only would be voted. A meeting was organized by Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Akola on Thursday 6th March 2014 at 10.00 AM at Babasaheb Ambedkar Open Natyagruh, Akola. Dipen Agrawal, President & Hemant Gandhi, Hon. Secretary NVCC were Chief Guests on the occasion.

PRESS PhotoKamlesh Vora, President, Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce & Industry welcomed the guests and in his Presidential address appraised the members about the reasons for organising the meeting. He briefly said that Govt. of Maharashtra imposed Local Body Tax replacing Octroi, with the result the members of business community are experiencing hardships due to harsh rules & regulations of LBT imposed in 25 Municipal Corporations of the Maharashtra. He further said that the Government is not taking cognizance of the problems being faced by the traders due to LBT hence all members of the trading community have to take oath today for “ Not to Vote” for political party which supports LBT in the forthcoming Lok Sabha & Vidhan Sabha elections.

Hemant Gandhi, Hon. Secretary, NVCC in his address said that since the imposition of the LBT NVCC & its affiliated trade associations observed trade bandh 34 days in April & May 2013 at Nagpur & kept their shops & establishments closed & demanded withdrawal of LBT. As a result the Govt. of Maharashtra accepted various suggestions proposed by NVCC & amended the rules & regulations of the LBT.

Dipen Agrawal, President, NVCC while addressing the gathering of the traders said that during the election year traders of the State do not expect sops from the State Government but if the State Government feels that they can impose a new tax on traders against their wishes & they can get away with it then they are mistaken. It is time for the traders to get united & show such political parties their right place. Constitution of India provides each one of us with a weapon of “Vote” which should be cast with an intent to show what traders can do if they are unhappy.

In the meeting Kirana Merchants, Kothadi Bazar, Dal Mill, Hardware, Cloth market, Industrial Machinery, Sarafa, Oil Mill, Chemists & Druggists, Petrol Dealers, Electronic Merchants, New Cloth Market, Consumer Products, Electronic Goods, Adhtia Mandals, Auto Parts Dealers, Cycle Dealers, Readymade & Hosiery, Confectionery & about 70 trade associations participated. Along with members of Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce & Industry & representatives of affiliated trade associations thousands of traders were present in the meeting & while expressing their unity, took oath to Not to Vote for that Political Party which supports LBT.
