‘Scribe,’ 2 others booked for extorting money from Hope Hospital doctor

Nagpur: Panchpaoli police have booked three persons, including a scribe of a local Cable TV Channel siti cable, on the charges of extorting money from a doctor by threatening to expose him for taking money from a patient who was beneficiary under Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Yojana. The ‘scared’ doctor had, in fact, paid over Rs 2.80 lakh to the accused persons out of Rs 3 lakh extortion demand. But when the accused forced to doctor to pay the remaining extortion money, the doctor approached the police and registered a case against the three accused.

According to police, the victim has been identified as Dr Murlibal Sundar Katiyamal (47), resident of LIC Square, Sadar, and probably the Director of Hope Hospital, Tekanaka, Kamptee Road here. The accused have been identified as Ritesh Borkar, the scribe with a local Cable TV Channel siti cable, Tushar Gagre and their one unidentified accomplice.

In his complaint, Dr Katiyamal told police that the accused Ritesh Borkar came to his Hope Hospital on 20.3.2016 and said to him “You have done wrong things by taking money from a patient who was beneficiary of Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Yojana. I am a journalist and I will expose you with reports in newspapers and TV channels.” With these threatening words, the accused demanded Rs 3 lakh as extortion money. Thereafter, between 5.4.16 and 24.5.16, the accused frequently demanded the extortion money from Dr Katiyamal. ‘Scared’ to the core, Dr Katiyamal paid Rs 2,83,900 till to date as demanded by the accused trio. But when the three accused started demanding the remaining money, Dr Katiyamal approached Panchpaoli police and lodged a complaint in this connection.

PSI Tayde has booked the three accused under Sections 384, 385, 34 of IPC and launched a thorough probe into the matter.
