The woes of parents of school going girls just dont seem to end in the IT city of Bengluru. Minor girls being raped in school, school girl commiting suicide after being punished by school and now a girl shot dead in her hostel by the school attendant himself.

Gauthami, aged 17 years, was a PU student of the Pragati Residential School  in Kadugodi on the outskirts of Bengaluru. She was in her room when she heard a knock on the door at 10 p.m. on Tuesday. When she opened the door, Mahesh the attendant shot her twice, once in the mouth and on her head killing her on the spot.  He then shot  her roommate, Shirisha,  who  sustained injuries on her face and is in the hospital. She may need face resconstruction.

The accused, Mahesh (41), whose advances had been rejected by Gauthami, fled the scene and the police have launched a manhunt.

Mahesh fired four rounds from a country-made firearm.

A bullet brushed past Shirisha’s left ear, causing injury. She was admitted to Manipal Hospital and is out of danger.

Gauthami, a science student, had just completed her PU examinations and was all set to return to her home.  She  hailed from Tumakuru district.

Gauthami’s father was inconsolable when he came to the school on hearing the news. “What wrong had my daughter done? Kill me if she had erred in any way.” He moaned.

Police officials had formed three teams to nab Mahesh. They have succeeded in nabbing him at last but still have no clue about how he got the gun.

Though the school has CCTV cameras, only a security guard and a few attenders were present at the time of the incident.
