‘Save Merit Save Nation’ to take out silent march to raise concern over reservation

Nagpur: In order to push forth their concern over caste-based reservation and raise their demand before policymakers, ‘Save Merit Save Nation’ forum has organized a silent march on Sunday, August 25 from Yashwant Stadium to Kasturchand Park.

All associations under the aegis of Save Merit Save Nation from various towns of Vidarbha will be participating in the procession. The march will start at 10 am from Yashwant Stadium and reach Kasturchand Park through Panchsheel Square, Variety Square, Morris T Point Square and RBI Square.

Speaking to Nagpur Today, Dr Sanjay Deshpande, secretary ‘Save Merit Save Nation’ said, “We are not against any caste, in fact we are not against even reservation. We just want government to implement 50% reservation and rest should be alloted to the students of Open category.”

An alarming situation in the State of Maharashtra has arisen due to the increase in the percentage of reservation crossing Supreme Court capping. More than 110 open category castes’ associations along with many others who constitute more than 38% of the population have united to join under ‘Save Merit Save Nation’ forum expressing concern over reducing the number of seats for open category students from the school, all colleges, post-graduation, and jobs.

The aim of this movement is to involve like-minded people/ communities who believe in the cause of merit first. Promoting merit for progressive India and provision of equality in the opportunity to all as enshrined in the constitution is the essence of this unity of all religion open category caste groups which represent more than 38% of the population.
