The Rastrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) is taking a severe beating when it comes to research related activities being carried out by its departments. About 37 PG departments and 3 colleges are directly run by RTMNU and colleges & departments like LIT, Biotechnology Department , Mathematics and Physics Department have received good research funding. However, the outcome and the status of research activities carried by them are found very disappointing.

According to information from RTMNU Senate meeting, the university could get only 3 research patents and carried out 48 projects and only 6 workshops of the total research funding. Lack of vision and teachers’ interest in research is not paving any result in this direction.

Various departments of university carry research projects, wherein students in collaboration with research institutes and industrial units do research related projects.

RTMNU  has collaborated with six research centres and industrial houses for research related work. RTMNU has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NEERI, Anocan Laboratories, Central Institue of Cotton Research, Maharashtra Centre for Entreprenuership Development (MCED), Dev Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya and ZIM Laboratories Ltd.

University received Rs 3.75 crore for research initiatives

Although university received decent amount of funding for research projects, however, the research work carried out in the university is very disappointing. Except few departments that are carrying out research projects and workshops, the research scene is not up to the mark as it should be despite receiving Rs 3.75 crore for research initiatives.

Lack of research consultancy and campus placements:

The research consultancy and campus placements, which is the order of the day in higher education, is missing in RTMNU. Counting LIT and Mass Communication Department, no other departments carry campus job interviews. According to experts, it is the lack of vision that is blocking the very crucial growth aspect.
