The shining stars are in darkness!! The students, who brought glory to Rashtrasant Tukdoji  Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) in cultural and sports fields at National, State, and Zonal levels by their outstanding achievements, are being deprived of honours they deserved. The oft-repeated words of RTMNU authorities that the welfare of students is paramount while running the University affairs are proving to be hollow time and again. The glorious students are being ditched and snubbed.

The RTMNU had announced last year grand felicitation and cash awards to those students who participated in cultural and sports events and won medals by their outstanding display of skills. However, these students are awaiting their felicitation for the past six months by university. The students won medals in National, State, and Zonal championships in cultural and sports fields.  But the prize distribution ceremony of is being delayed by lack of coordination and apathetic attitude of concerned authorities.

The Management Council had taken a decision to give cash awards to the medal winners in various events. Accordingly, first spot winners in National, State and Zonal events would get Rs 5000, followed by Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 for the second and third spot respectively.

But these stars of RTMNU  who have bagged many Gold and other medals in National, State, Zonal and International events are not getting their importance and dues they deserve.

Nagpur Today spoke with a student Rohit Mishra who won National, State as well as Zonal championship last year.  Rohit said, “We were happy that Nagpur University would felicitate us. Other universities also felicitate their achievers with handsome cash prizes.  The prize money would have been a great impetus to us. But the delay in holding the felicitation ceremony even when the budget for the same has been released is very disappointing.”

When Nagpur Today contacted Kawadkar, the RTMNU Director of Students’ Welfare, he said he will look into the issue personally and the felicitation function will be organized soon.
