Nagpur: Senior corporator Raju Nagulwar on Friday took over charge as Nationalist Congress Party leader in Nagpur Municipal Corporation. While assuming charge, Nagulwar said his motto would be raising public issues in NMC.

“I will raise the issue of mismanagement of city’s water supply by private firm Orange City Water Limited appointed by the NMC for implementing 24X7 water supply scheme,” he said, claiming that he will also raise the poor city bus service in corporation limits.

Nagulwar said a lot can be done to improve the financial condition of the cash strapped NMC. With the Orange city expanding, new colonies are coming up in all directions. However, the number of taxpayers has not increased in that proportion. This is obviously due to NMC’s failure to effectively implement the tax assessment process, Nagulwar revealed. If the tax department employees work sincerely, the civic body can easily generate Rs500 crore, he pointed out, adding then there is no reason to increase the property tax.

Former minister Anil Deshmukh, senior NCP leader Pragati Patil, city president of NCP youth wing Vishal Khandekar, Nutan Revatkar and others were present.
