Nagpur: The permission for setting up in Nagpur the first ever state-level unit of AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) having been granted by the Central Cabinet, its construction process has started gathering momentum.

Talking to media persons on Friday, here in the city, Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari said that he would soon discuss with the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis the early transfer of land earmarked for AIIMS so that the construction process could be expedited.

He explained that the department, which designs the government buildings, functions under the state government, but he had tabled his request before the Cabinet that the work of designing the AIIMS building at Nagpur be handed over to some private architect company, and the request has been considered.

The AIIMS building in Nagpur would provide its unique identity, he opined, adding that he was fulfilling his commitments which he had made to the people before being elected to Parliament.

Gadkari further said, he would try to provide Rs 5000 crore from his Ministry for cement road construction in the city.

When the topic of air maintenance of Air India at MIHAN was raised, he replied that a discussion to this effect was held in Delhi, and some solution would soon come out. He informed that the HCL, a renowned company in IT sector, which owns 50 acre land in MIHAN had cancelled the project in Nagpur, but as the issue was discussed, what came out was that the company would return 100 acres of land to state government and would start its project on 50 acres only, and about 5000 people would get employment.
He concluded his talk by saying that he dreams of creating jobs for 50,000 people in MIHAN, and hopes that he would attain accomplishment of his dream within 2 years.
