Apart from the regular procedures that the kingpin of the latest investment fraud Prashant Wasankar had to face, another thing that was constantly maintained at his face was his uncanny smile that indicates far more than what meets the eyes.

On Monday when Wasankar was produced in the court along with his brother and brother-in-law, his aides in the scam, he looked quite stress free and contented, without a trace of worry.

Wasankar who was arrested on Sunday along with Vinay Wasankar and Abhijeet Chaudhari were moved from the Ambazari Police Station in the morning and taken to Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch. From the EOW, he was brought to the Court at 13:40 pm.

The trio was presented before Honourable District Sessions Judge-2 S P Muley of the Special Court of Maharashtra Protection Of Interest Of Depositors (MPID).

Presented bare-foot; defiant look on face

The person who lived like a king throughout his life, was always attired in full suits with costly shoes was brought on Monday attired only in a plain blue T-shirt and a jeans (the same dress in which he was arrested) and stood in the court bare foot. However, what was saddening is the fact that Prashant Wasankar displayed no remorse for defrauding innocent investors. Instead, he stood in the court with a defiant look as if he knows for sure that nothing is going to happen to him.

The main complainant Vivek Ashok Pathak was respresented by Advocates Vandan Gadkari and Gajendra G Saoji. Advocate Anand Deshpande represented Prashant Wasankar, Advocate Devani represented Vinay Wasankar and Advocate A H Deshpande represented Abhijit Chaudhari.

Advocates Vandan Gadkari and Gajendra G Saoji presented the case to the Hon. Judge S P Muley. They had summarized the entire scam committed by Wasankar and his cohorts beautifully. The Prosecution and police had requested 14 day’s PCR however the court sent them to police custody for 7 days.

However, Advocate Dewani who represented Vinay Wasankar placed before the bench, his arguments and objections against the PCR for his client. He argued that the involvement of Vinay Wasankar in the scam is mentioned nowhere in the FIR or charge-sheet, hence, he should not be placed in the PCR. He added the names of the other accused in his argument, that, since the EOW of Crime Branch has in their possession, all the documents, passports, 966 grams of gold jewellery, Rs 12 lakhs in cash, 3 hard discs, Lap-Tops and Cheque books, why do they want the PCR of the alleged accused.

The prosecution also wanted the arrest of the remaining 6 accused. However, after the learned Judge over-ruled all the objections of the defendant lawyers and granted the 7 day’s PCR.

Meanwhile sources said that Bhagyashree Wasankar, the wife of Prashant Wasankar has moved papers, appealing permission to operate her lockers and bank accounts.

The pro and anti Wasankar groups had gathered outside the court in good numbers and wanted to have a glimpse of their hero / devil. However, the intelligent Investigation Officer of EOW PI Dane brought him through a route which no one knew. He took them out also in a similar fashion, where no one, including the media could know from where he was taken out.
