‘One Step Towards Cleanliness’: 5 Tehsils of district become Open Defecation Free

With the people according an overwhelming response to “Ek Paool Swachhate Kade” (One Step Towards Cleanliness), five tehsils – Kalmeshwar, Ramtek, Mauda, Kamptee and Umred – have become Open Defecation Free (ODF) tehsils in the district. A total of 624 Gram Panchayatis in the district have become OFD. With this feat under its sleeves, the District Administration has geared itself up to make entire district Open Defecation Free district by the end of March this year.

The district marching towards ODF under Swachh Bharat Mission with the five talukas achiving the feat. The Zilla Parishad took the appeal “One Step Towards Cleanliness” at the door steps of people with a zeal. The ZP created a massive awareness to change the mentality of villagers through informative, educative and communicative means. Its President Neesha Savarkar and CEO Dr Kadambari Balkavde provided their valuable guidance in the venture.
The venture is not limited to construction of toilets in villages but the villagers were encouraged to use the toilets regularly. Around 2,94,451 toilets were constructed by families out of 30,05,927 families in the district. By the end of the March this year, the entire district would be made Open Defecation Free district.
