Nagpur: As the Orange City marches towards becoming a Smart City, fire-fighters of NMC’s Fire Brigade will have a new look. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has decided to change the present uniform of Firemen and Fire Officers at its Fire and Emergency Services Department. The Standing Committee of NMC will take the final call when a proposal in this regard comes before it in a meeting slated on Friday.

Notably, The State Government had directed local bodies to have one uniform for all Firemen across the State so that they can be identified separately during emergency. Currently, the fire-fighters wear Khaki uniform just like police and it is difficult to distinguish between the cops and the Firemen during disaster management.

Now, the Firemen and Fire Officers will don the new uniform — navy blue trousers and white shirt with peak cap and shoulder badge — like their counterparts in Pune, Mumbai, Thane, and other cities of the state. The civic body will also provide navy blue raincoat, jerkin, leather shoes, cap, belt, buckle, sports shoes, and tunic.

The Standing Committee of NMC, in all likelihood, is expected to give its stamp of approval to the proposal of new uniform to firemen of its Fire and Emergency Services Department. If approved, the fire-fighters will have a new look which is likely to cost Rs 1 crore to the NMC’s exchequer.
