NMC treats and would treat bogus doctors in Nagpur with heavy hand

Nagpur News: Finally, the Health Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has girded its loins to teach lessons to bogus or fake doctors by carrying out a drive and under the drive the Health Department authorities inspected a total of 35 private hospitals or clinics with minute details.

The Health Department authorities found two hospitals were running without following the rules, regulations and guidelines necessary for a hospital or a clinic. They have registered an offence against the two hospitals in this regard. The action by the Health Department authorities has created tremors among those doctors who are running hospitals or clinics by violating the prescribed rules, regulations and guidelines in Nagpur city.

The print and the electronic media from time to time have reported a large number of bogus doctors practicing in Nagpur thus putting the public lives in great dangers. The Health Department authorities of NMC took the issue of bogus doctors seriously and formed a Committee and launched an intense drive to inspect private hospitals and clinics and search the bogus doctors practicing in the Orange City. The Health Department authorities would initiate strongest action a doctor is found bogus or not following the rules and regulations. Accordingly, they inspected 35 hospitals or clinics in the first stage of the drive.

During the drive the Health Department authorities checked certificates of registrations of doctors with one of following councils: Maharashtra Medical Council, Maharashtra Dental Council, Maharashtra  Council of Ayurveda and Maharashtra Council of Homoeopathy. Out of 35 hospitals and clinics, two doctors were found practicing with several shortcomings and were booked under Section 33 (1) of Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act 1961. Keeping in mind the seriousness of the issue of bogus doctors, the Additional Commissioner of NMC Hemant Pawar held a meeting of concerned authorities on May 6. Pawar directed the authorities to take strong actions against doctors, their hospitals and clinics if found violating the prescribed  rules, regulations and guidelines  of Maharashtra Medical Council or other  related Councils.

The meeting also decided to seek help of the citizens in finding bogus or fake doctors and the identity of such citizens would be kept secret. Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Kakde, Health Officer Dr Savita Meshram, Committee Member Dr Atik-ur-Rehman Khan, Dr Vijay Joshi, Dr Bahirwar, Mukun Khuje, and Nitin Deshmukh were prominently present at the meeting.
