NMC Tax Inspector in ACB net for bribe of Rs 6,500

Nagpur: A Tax Inspector of Nagpur Municipal Corporation was on Thursday trapped by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) red-handed while he was accepting bribe of Rs 6500 from a flat owner.

According to ACB, the complainant had gone to Ashi Nagar Zone No. 9 of Nagpur Municipal Corporation to get his and neighbour’s flat assessed for Property Tax. However, the Tax Inspector Atul Hariprasad Mate (46) straighaway demanded Rs 6,500 as bribe from the complainant if the job is to be done. Taken aback by the bribe demand, the flat owner immediately reached the ACB office and filed a complaint in this regard.

Acting on the complaint, a team of ACB sleuths laid a trap at Ashi Nagar Zone No. 9 of Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Thursday (February 26) and waited for the action. Unaware of the trap, the Tax Inspector Atul Hariprasad Mate demanded Rs 6500 as bribe money and accepted as well. As soon as the accused Mate pocketed the bribe money, the ACB sleuths pounced on him and caught him red-handed in the corrupt deal.

The ACB later registered an offence with Pachpaoli Police Station against the accused Tax Inspector Atul Mate under various Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. Matey was later put under arrest.
