NMC Polls : Almost ‘no objection’ on Wards’ delimitation!

prabhag-mapNagpur: How aware is Nagpur in exercising it franchise in the ensuing municipal elections is evident from the fact that only 48 citizens out of the roughly 20.17 lakh voters registered their suggestions and objections on the draft of wards’ delimitation for the polls. Most of the objections are related to new four-member ward system.

Following the directives state election commission (SEC), the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has invited suggestions and objections on draft of wards’ delimitation between October 10 and 25. “A few suggestions and objections are from corporators while others are political leaders and social activists,” said NMC sources.

Sources added that NMC will submit suggestions and objections with its replies to SEC. Then SEC will appoint a representative to hold hearing on November 4. Wards delimitation will be finalized on November 25,” the official said.

As per recommendation of the state government, the SEC had revised ward system to four members from the existing two members. Accordingly, NMC drafted boundaries of new wards. Number of wards reduced to 38 from the existing 72.
