NMC, LBT and Fire department personnel salary cheques put on hold

In what could be claimed that sheer apathy of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation administration, the salary cheques of many employees have been put on hold claimed many aggrieved employees on June 26, 2015.

According to sources, there are 650 employees who are employed in various departments of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The salary cheques, for the month of May were given to the employees on June 24, 2015. The total amount of salaries is said to amount to a whopping sum of Rs 5 lakhs.

The employees of various departments including from Local Body Tax (LBT) Department, Fire department had deposited their salary cheques drawn from Bank of Maharashtra into their accounts. However, except for a few, the cheques of many employees have not been cleared as yet.

Sources claimed that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has only Rupees one lakh in their account, which is not sufficient to pay the salaries of all the employees.

Another employee claimed that on enquiry from the bank, the bank officials had allegedly claimed that the officials of Accounts department of NMC had given directions to them not to clear any salary cheques till they give a go-ahead signal.

It is learnt that the salaries of all the employees of health department amounting to around 95 lakhs have been paid. The salary of Education department staff too is not paid as yet.

Some of the aggrieved employees of NMC while speaking to Nagpur Today claimed that from the time, NMC decided to abolish the LBT from August 2015, the salaries which used to be paid on the 1st of every month is delayed and the authorities have started paying salaries on 15, 20, 25 or even 27th of the month.
