Need to check pollution caused by K’kheda ash

Nagpur: Mahagenco in its Khaparkheda power generation plant is unable to check pollution caused by ash emitted by 500 mw ESP Hopper everyday, as the emitted ash is spreading all over through air and on the ground due to over-loading of the hopper.

It may be mentioned here that an accessory ‘pump gear box’ was bought from a foreign based company for ESP hopper but as it is not being used for a long time, it is lying almost dead. If the said pump is not used to its purpose well in time the problem of pollution will keep growing more and it may even go out of control to check.

From the current emission of ash from Khaparkheda power plant, the ash so emitted is dumped at Waregaon dam by the plant management, and said ash is used in large scale manufacture of bricks and road construction. But the portion of ash soaring in the air falls on plants and all types of vegetation on the ground and thus damages them. It is also affecting the open water resources, agricultural produce and buildings in surrounding areas. Most affected by the ash is human health; and as a result the diseases of lungs, chest, skin, eyes, etc, are growing in the area.

The citizens are thus much concerned about such a problem and they are laying blame on Mahagenco for its negligence, and demanding immediate check on it.
