The ABP News-Ipsos Best City Research and Rewards running for the first time is the only consumer validated survey and celebrates the best of India’s cities and acts as a benchmark for excellence.

The best city honour was won by Nagpur ( Nagpur Today was  first to report this in the morning )

Nagpur, the best city to live in India, incidentally also beats to the rhythm of India’s heart because of its geographical location. Mostly people believe: bigger the better. However, this may not always be true. The answers are not always what you expect but there will be no more disputes on this topic as the ABP News-Ipsos Best City Survey and Awards scientifically evaluate and identify the Best Cities to Live in India.

Nagpur is India’s most Liveable City with the Best Public Transport, the Best Green City and the Best City for Health Care Services.

Pune, Madurai and Nashik also win awards

“Defining what constitutes good quality of life has occupied philosophers like Plato and Aristotle since they didn’t have access to the ABP News-Ipsos Liveability Index. India’s most liveable cities have been surveyed in a formal way for the first time and the Cities that score the best tend to be mid-sized cities with relatively low population density that don’t over burden the infrastructure. The objectives of the ABP News-Ipsos: Best City Survey and Award is to reward cities that provide a role model to inspire other Cities to adopt a more integrated approach to urban management. It is important to recognise cities that progress towards healthier and sustainable living areas even though progress is its own reward,” shared Mr Ashok Venkatramani, CEO, MCCS {ABP News, ABP Ananda and ABP Majha}.

The award function was attended by dignitaries from India’s top political parties like Manish Tewari, Kapil Sibal, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Praful Patel, Ravishankar Prasad, Shahnawaz Hussain, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Sandeep Dikshit and Amar Singh.

Many of them presented their views on infrastructure development in major cities, urban planning, improving cleanliness and sanitation, change of land use, migration of youths to cities.

About the ABP News-IPSOS Best City Survey and Awards

The objective of ABP News Best City Survey was to recognize the Best City with a population above 10 lakhs on 13 Parameters. The parameters were Affordable Housing, Roads, Public Transport, Efficient Traffic Management, Power Availability, Cleanliness & Sanitation, Green City, Law & Order, Women Safety, Tourist Friendly City, Health Care Services, Primary Education and Overall Best City to live in.

First stage involved selection of twenty cities from 52 cities with population above 10 lakhs in India. This was done through extensive and exhaustive secondary research using Large Scale National and District level databases like Census 2011, District Level Household and Facility Survey, etc.

The first step of city selection involved grouping of cities within groups with comparable population followed by the second step which involved identification of important population matrices for comparing 52 cities to find out the best performing twenty cities. A single Liveability Index defined as “ABP News-Ipsos Liveability Index” was derived from multiple population related matrices and it was on same line of thought as the Human Development Index used by UNDP. Most of the elements which went on defining Ipsos-ABP Liveability Index could be mapped to UNDP Human Development Index.
