MSEDCL busts 1420 power thefts

The Maharasthra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) conducted massive meter checking drive across the Vidarbha and unearthed whopping 1,420 power thefts.

The drive was conducted on Thursday following directive issued by the MSEDCL’s Managing Director Sanjiv Kumar. The MSEDCL had formed special teams to conduct the drive in Vidarbha. The MSEDCL has unearthed power theft of 21,96,787 units worth over Rs 2.28 lakh. The 1,420 power thefts included 587 direct connections by hooks and 833 by tampering meters. The MSEDCL has registered offences agaisnt the power pilferers under Section 135 of Electricty Act.

The MSEDCL further informed that the drive was conducted to reduce the power losses as the power thefts affected the genuine consumers who are paying power bills every month. As per the details, 27 power thefts were busted in Nagpur Division, 80 in Nagpur Rural, 27 in Wardha, 75 in Amravati, 158 in Yavattmal, 86 in Akola, 63 in Washim, 167 in Buldhana, 37 in Chandrapur, 20 in Gadchiroli, 39 in Bhandara and 62 in Gondia Division.
