Dr-Kishor taoriNagpur News: In a surprise development, Dr Kishore Taori, President of Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), has been issued Show Cause Notice by State Medical Education Minister Jitendra Awhad following allegations of misuse of powers. However, since Dr. Taori is headd of a statutory body, the decision to dismiss him rests only with the Chief Minister. Dr Taori had been served a show cause notice asking him ‘why he should not be dismissed” following charges of misuse of post.

According to sources, Dr Taori has been charged with misusing his position on several occasions. There are complaints against him including that of going on a long leave for working in a foreign land. In spite of repeated reminders, Dr Taori remained indefinable for the inquiry. Recently, a 48-hour notice was sent to Dr Taori to present his case, but he brushed off the notice. An inquiry had reportedly proved Dr Taori’s guilt that resulted in his sacking by the Minister.

Dr Taori was appointed as the MMC President in 2009 and he is head of Radiology Department at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH in Nagpur.

The MMC is the watchdog of the medical profession and is vested with the executive authority to suspend or terminate doctors’ licenses. It also looks into patients’ complaints about medical negligence and conducts checks on medical colleges and oversees their functioning. In the month of June, the MMC suspended the recognition of the century-old College of Physicians for lack of transparency in its student recruitment process.
