Mayo doctor thrashed by patient’s kin for restricting their entries in ward

A Resident Doctor of Mayo Hospital was abused, manhandled and also threatened with life by three relatives of a patient including a woman for restricting their entry into a ward. The incident took place on Wednesday evening. The three accused have been booked and are being searched.

The Resident Doctor Jignez Prit Bahadur Sharma (27) of Mayo Hospital was on duty at Ward No. 8 on Wednesday. Around 5 pm, a patient named Rajani Gaurav Malik was referred to the ward and she was brought to the ward by four of her relatives including a woman. Subsequently, the Resident Doctor Sharma told them that only one relative is allowed with the patient and others should wait outside the ward. Enraged by the doctor’s directive, the woman relative and two others started abusing and manhandling him with one of them holding collar of the stunned doctor. The three accused relatives even held out life threats to Dr Sharma for his ‘order’ to them to leave the ward. After the outrageous incident, the accused vanished from the scene. The bewildered Resident Doctor informed the higher authorities of Mayo Hospital and also registered a case with Tehsil police in this connection.

API Padlak, acting on the doctor’s plaint, booked an accused relative named Jagdish Ramesh Karihar and two others under Sections 323, 353, 504, 506, 34 of the IPC and searching for them.
