Nagpur: A middle-aged married man not only raped a 33-year old woman by doling out marriage promise but also grabbed her property by fraudulent means. Police have now booked him on both the charges.

According to police, the accused Vijay Wamanrao Mate (42), a resident of Jayanti Nagar, Beltarodi, Sonegaon was having extra marital affairs with the 33-year-old woman. The woman, in her complaint to police, said that the accused Vijay established physical contacts with her time and again between 2013 and August 9, 2014 by promising marriage with her soon after divorcing his wife. The accused said the divorce would soon take place as he was not in good terms with his wife. The victim further said the accused, by doling out marriage promise every now and then, raped her. However, when she started exerting pressure on accused to get married with her, Vijay started avoiding her on one excuse or the other. The woman soon realised that Vijay was misusing her and thus confronted him to come clean on his marriage promise. However, Vijay not only refused to marry her but abused and insulted her by calling her caste.

Meanwhile, the woman alleged that Vijay and she had set up a furniture shop in partnership with the name ‘Furniture World’ in Sahil Complex, Wadi but the accused illegally transferred the furniture shop on his and his wife’s name and thus cheated her.

On the basis of the complaint filed by the woman, Wadi police have booked Vijay Wamanrao Mate under Sections 376, 420 of the IPC and Sub Sections 3 (1) (10) (12) of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and probing the matter further.
