Many injured as two groups of WCL Workers Union clash violently

Nagpur: Several persons were injured when two groups of WCL Workers Union clashed with each other violently in Mankapur area here on Monday noon. Cops have booked a number of persons on the basis of complaint and counter complaint from the clashing groups.

The trouble started around 12 noon on Monday when a group of office-bearers and members of WCL Workers Union were holding a meeting at Sumitra Mangal Karyalaya in Mankapur area. The meeting, under the chairmanship of Umashankar Singh, was being held without permission. During the meeting, the Union reportedly removed Shivkumar Babulal Yadav (46), resident of Kanhan, from the post of General Secretary. This action left Yadav enraged and he, along with two colleagues named Deepak Choudhary (40), resident of KT Nagar, Katol Road, Vijay Singh (50), of Kanhan and 25-30 other members stormed the meeting hall and started abusing the rival group. The accused also thrashed office-bearers and members of the Union and left many injured.

Mankapur Assistant PSI Moreshwar Tumdam, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Srinivas Singh Rameshwar Singh (47), resident of Plot No. 2, Vitthal Rukhmini Nagar, booked the accused Shivkumar Yadav, Deepak Choudhary, Vijay Singh and others under Sections 147, 148, 149, 324, 294 of the IPC read with Section 135 of Maharashtra Police Act.

However, in a counter complaint, Shivkumar Babulal Yadav told police that when he came to know that some office-bearers and members of WCL Workers Union were holding an unauthorised meeting slyly at Sumitra Mangal Karyalaya, he along with some other office-bearers went to the venue. After reaching the venue he objected to the unauthorised meeting. His objection enraged the accused Umashankar Singh (57), resident of Pathakheda, Betul, M S Singh (47) of Swaminagar, Gorewada, Anand Pratap Singh (45) of Umred, Rajesh Singh (37) of Pathakheda, Sanjay Singh (47) of Pathakheda and their 60-70 colleagues. The accused started abusing and thrashing Shivkumar Yadav and his colleagues and also doled out threats.

Acting on the counter-complaint of Yadav, Manakapur cops registered a case under Sections 147, 149, 323, 506, 294 of the IPC. Further investigations are underway.
