Man gets 10-year jail for raping 7-year old girl

Nagpur: A district court has sentenced a 30-year old man to 10-year imprisonment after finding him guilty of raping a neighbouring 7-year old girl.

According to prosecution, the accused Sonu Hari Verma, resident of Gupta Square, Surendragarh, Gittikhadan, between 11 am and 2 pm on May 6, 2016, called the neighbouring 7-year old girl to his house on some pretext. As the girl came to his house, Sonu closed the door and told her to remove clothes. He forcibly stripped her and then indulged obscene acts. As the victimised girl later narrated the heinous incident to her mother, she lodged a complaint with Gittikhadan police against the accused. Acting on the complaint, cops registered an offence No. 148/16 under Section 376 of the IPC read with Sub-sections 4, 8, 10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and arrested the accused Sonu Verma.

After a thorough probe and collective clinching evidence, cops filed a chargesheet in the court of Principal District Judge Vikas Dongre on 20.7.2016. The court conducted fast trial on Friday (June 23) and found Sonu Verma guilty of rape charge. Subsequently, the Principal District Court Judge Vikas Dongre sentenced Sonu Verma to 10-year rigorous imprisonment.

The investigation into the case was carried out by Woman PSI Kanake under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Nikam, ACP Waghchaure and the then DCP Latkar.
