A young man in his 30s, reportedly a liquor addict, died under mysterious circumstances at Dabha square on Saturday evening as he slept into unconsciousness and eventually breathed his last after being beaten black and blue by a chicken shop owner and his aides.

The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Rashid Sheikh Inayat, who resided at Sai Nagar in Wadi. Gittikhadan police have picked up one Zahid and his aide under suspicion, however their role in the crime could not be confirmed. A case under section 302 IPC has been registered against the accused.
Rashid was said to be a habitual drinker who often got into spat with the owner of Madina chicken centre at Dabha square. Both the accused and the deceased often faught with each other on many occasions in the past.
Gittikhadan Police Inspector Anil Bonde has confirmed the murder but yet to ascertain the actual cause of Rashid’s death. Bonde told Nagpur Today that on Saturday afternoon at around 3.30 pm, heavily drunk Rashid reached at Zahid’s chicken shop and started hurling abuses at him. When things got beyond limit, Zahid and his associates who were also present at that time reportedly lost their cool and thrashed Rashid. They pulled up Rashid and rained blows on him by sticks, beating him blue. Later Rashid was left unconscious. Since he was not able to walk as he was under the influence of alcohol, he slept at a hutment beside the chicken shop. However, when Rashid did not wake up till evening he was taken to Mayo hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Sources said Rashid was also ailing from diabetes and often remained sick owing to his drinking habit.
Bonde said the picture would be clear once we get the postmortem report.
