The initial laxity shown by builders and property developers in getting their projects registered with the newly formed Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has given way to a last minute rush of sorts ahead of the July 31 deadline.
As of Saturday, the newly formed government body’s website has registered more than 4,125 projects. The figure stood a little under 1,000 just a week ago.
While builders had sought extension of registration deadline, they did not receive any relief from the government.
MahaRERA estimates there are around 10,000 projects to be declared in the state, mostly concentrated in urban areas like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivali, Mira-Bhyander, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and Aurangabad, among others.
As per section 3 of the RERA act, developers will not be able to advertise, market or offer projects for sale if they have not registered it with the regulator.
“By August 15, the list of all the projects registered with us will be visible to citizens. And if they come to know any project which is going on without a registration number from RERA, after this deadline, they can lodge a complaint on dedicated email id published by us,” MahaRERA Chairman Gautam Chatterjee mentioned. “The complainant need not have to be a buyer,” added Chatterjee.
