Kamptee’s Rabbani Club emerges runners up in Gwalior Gold Cup Football Tourney

The outstanding performance of Kamptee’s Rabbani Club in the Scindia Gold Cup Football Tournament played at Gwalior saw them reaching the title match but had to be content with runners up team. In the finals, the spirited Rabbani were trounced by Laxmi Narayan Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) of Gwalior by 3-0.

The first goal by LNIPE was scored in the 10th minute of the first half. Rabbani’s Musheer Reyaz was shown red card for his folly of rough handling the LNIPE player. It also resulted in penalty kick being awarded to the Gwalior outfit. The local side converted the penalty kick into a goal and led the first half 1-0 in the first half.

Rabbani, reduced to 10-man side, played an excellent game of football but were unlucky to score equaliser as they missed several chances offered to their forwards. Zahid Akhtar and Farhad Junaid sealed the fate of Rabbani by hitting two more goals in the 70th and 88th minute. The final whistle showed 3-0 score in favour of LNIPE.

The winner pocketed Rs 1 lakh as the first prize and the loser Rs 51,000.

Maqsood Ansari and Shoeb Ansari were the Manager and Coach of Rabbani respectively. Suresh Bhoyar, President of Rabbani Club, and other members of the committee congratulated the team for their success in the tournament, says a press release issued by Secretary Abdul Sattar Ansari.
