The illegal eateries operating from the 70-acre encroached land of Rastrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur university (RTMNU) adjacent to the Post-Graduate Campus, which were ordered to down the shutters for operating without valid licenses under the Bombay Police Act, have audaciously started doing business again since the past 5 days.
Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar, after taking over Nagpur University’s reins as Acting Vice Chancellor, had taken action on against the encroachers on NU’s 70-acre land adjacent to the postgraduate campus.
After the initiative taken by Kumar, police had raided and closed the eateries for operating without valid food and eating licenses under the Bombay Police Act, 1951.
The action by Anoop Kumar followed a meeting of senior officials from Collectorate, along with state revenue and excise departments, on May 8, to review the situation. He had directed officials to check the permits and validity of food licences.
Petitions have been filed in the court by encroachers challenging the actions of concerned authorities. Adv Anand Parchure is representing RTMNU.
Sandip Yadav, who runs an eatery on the land, had stated that his family was staying on the land since 1912.
Restaurants operating on land are Four Seasons Family Restaurant, The Spoon Garden Restaurant, Mezbaan Family Restaurant, Maratha Family Restaurant, Shekhar Saoji Bhojnalaya and Pintoo Saoji Restaurant .
