Gunshot fired near CM’s residence; youth critical

Sensation prevailed in Dharampeth near Chief Minister’s residence here on Tuesday as a gunshot reportedly fired from a sophisticated pistol critically injuring a youth driving luxurious Audi Q5 sedan on Tuesday in Dharampeth. The youth, identified as Sagir Ahmed, 28, is being treated at Wockhardt hospital in Shankar Nagar. Sagir hailed from Ghuggus in Chandrapur district, however he lived in Nagpur. He reportedly owned a coal transport business.

The incident took place behind Sudama Talkies area, just few meters away from the residence of State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The pistol’s trigger was reportedly pressed by mistake, however the police was yet to verify the claim. The incident took place opposite Gokul Vridavan restaurant where about 3-4 people went for lunch on Tuesday afternoon. All came out from the restaurant together and embarked on their Audi Q5 bearing registration number MH-40, AC-9797 and drove towards Shankar Nagar. Minutes after they started from the restaurant, a loud gunshot was heard from inside the speeding sedan which rammed into the boundary wall of residence of one lawyer identified as Sahil M. Bhangde. By the time the people gathered to peep into the vehicle, the youths inside the car were quite horrified with the incident. The youth at the driving seat was seen bleeding. He was immediately rushed to Wockhardt Hospital at Shankar Nagar, where his condition is said to be critical.

Joint Commissioner Anoop Kumar Singh, DCP Zone-I Abhinash Kumar, IPS Deepak Pande, Zone-4 DCP Ishu Sindhu, PI Vernekar, PI Anil Katkade along with other officers reached the spot soon after the accident. Sources said other youths inside the sedan were identified as Zakir, Shakti and another youth. They have been taken into custody for further inquiry.

Though the police are yet to ascertain the facts, sources said that the men inside the car were just trying to pull one of their friends by wielding gun on him. In a deadly humor, one of the youths seated on the back seat took out the pistol and trained on the youth driving the sedan. It was revealed that suddenly the brakes were applied which accidently triggered the fire and the bullet reportedly hit at the temple of the youth on driving seat. The injured youth lost control over the steering which led the vehicle to collide with the wall of roadside house. Another two-wheeler MH-40 AB 1048 was also partly damaged with the impact of collision.
