Group of men, women booked for encroaching Public Utility place with ill intention

An outrageous action by a group of men and women almost led to a flare up that would have been given a communal colour. But sanity prevailed and the matter went to police only who have booked the group.

According to police, the group, consisting men and women in potentially large number, allegedly encroached upon a public place where a religious programme was going on or scheduled to be held. The accused encroached upon the open land at Public Utility, Raut Nagar and installed an idol. However, the land was already occupied for other religious programme by some persons. The irresponsible action by the group led to a face off on communal lines but prudence shown by other persons calmed down the situation that had everything for a major flare up.

Nandanvan police, acting on a complaint lodged by Kewalram Sawarkar (79), a resident of Hiwri Layout, Shivaji Square, Nagpur have booked Savita Sukhdeve, Sandhya Waghmare, Ija Mate, Jyoti Wankhede, Devendra Meshram, Manoj Gajbhiye, Shalu Gurudev, Chhaya Dhanvijay, Rekha Bhimte, Savita Pillewar, Asha Patil, Jyotsana Fule, Sushila Ganvir, Vandana Walde, Darshana Pethe, Ekadashi Patil, Tulsabai Bhave, Lalita Maskar, Kaushalya Gadpaile, and Leela Gajbhiye along with other 10-15 persons under Sections 141, 143, 147, 149, 295 (a), 448, 120 (b) of the IPC. Further investigation is under way.
