Green Vigil does street play for Nag, Pili river

As the world observed Earth Day on Tuesday, Nagpur too saw some concerned moments aimed at doing its bit to preserve the planet Earth. City’s socio environmental organization Green Vigil Foundation came out with a street play which caught the people’s attention at Empress Mall here. Titled “Thamti Sanse, Mitati Pehchan” , the story line of the street play was based on the glorious past of Nag River, present pathetic condition and need of its rejuvenation. At the end of the play, citizens took a pledge for saving the dying river.

Dr. Kavita Rattan, Founder Green Vigil stated that Earth day was first celebrated in 1970 and today, 190 countries are celebrating the day highlighting the need of sustainable development. Since last four years, Green Vigil foundation in association with Earth Day Network, USA and India is celebrating Earth Day at Nagpur. Dr. Rattan explained, the theme for Earth day 2014 is “ Green Cities”,  as the world’s population migrates to cities, the need to create sustainable communities is more important than ever and with smart investments in sustainable technology, forward-thinking public policy, and an educated and active public, we can transform our cities and forge a sustainable future.

Kaustav Chatterjee, Co-Founder explained that Nag river, though signature river of city, is dying due to sewage discharge and garbage dumping. He said its rejuvenation cannot  be achieved without active participation from all citizens of Nagpur. Green Vigil has prepared the street play, which they will showcase at various places at Nagpur in an effort to connect citizens towards save Nag & Pili river campaign.

Hon. Mayor of Nagpur City, Prof. Anil Sole was present during the street play and motivated the members of Green Vigil team. He also interacted with citizen on Nag & Pili river rejuvenation programme. Other dignitaries present during the play were

Kaustav Chatterjee , Shakti Rattan, Daksha Borkar, Surbhi Jaiswal, Rahul Rathod, Pragya Naidu, Bisnudeo Yadav , Hemant Amesar, Mehul Kosurkar, Nazma Khan, Kumaresh Tikadar, Aakash Shende, Shubham Yerkhede, Nilesh Mumgate, Dadarao Mohod, Viswajit Paikrao, Susnata Mandal, Aakash Shambarkar acted in the street play.
