Great reformer Savitribai Phule paid glowing tributes on her birth anniversary

Morubhau Abhyankar PunytithiNagpur: The Mayor Pravin Datke, Deputy Mayor Munna Pokulwar and Standing Committee Chairman Ramesh Singare paid glowing tributes to Savitribai Jyotirao Phule, the social and educational reformer, on her birth anniversary which falls on January 3. They visited Mahatma Phule Market and garlanded the statue of Savitribai Phule while paying their tributes on behalf of city of Nagpur. The Mayor Datke also garlanded an oil portrait of the great reformer at his chamber in Civil Lines.

Along with her husband, Jyotirao Phule, Savitribai played an important role in improving women’s rights in India during British rule. She also worked to abolish discrimination and unfair treatment of people based on caste and gender. Savitribai worked as both an educational reformer and social reformer, especially for women.

The Deputy Mayor Munna Pokulwar also paid rich tributes to great freedom fighter Barrister M V alias Morubhau Abhyankar on his 81st death anniversary today. Pokulwar offered floral tributes to statue of Morubhau Abhyankar situated at NMC’s Town Hall in Mahal. Others present on the occasion include Mohan Abhyankar, Sudhir Abhyankar, Assistant Public Relations Officer Pradeep Khardenavis, Rajesh Wasnik and others.
