“There is nothing new in my today’s visit to RSS Headquarters. Every year I come here after Laxmi Pujan for extending Diwali greetings. I am doing this since the past 25 years. I attend Dussehra function of RSS every year and same is with every Diwali,” quipped Gadkari while replying to queries posed by media.

Nagpur News: Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari on Saturday visited the Headquarters of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Mahal area of Nagpur and held a meeting with Sarsanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat. The meeting lasted for two hours in which “important” issues were discussed.

Replying to a horde of queries posed by waiting journalists, Gadkari said that he visited the RSS Headquarters to extend Diwali greetings to Mohan Bhagwat and other functionaries of the organization and also held discussion on other various issues but not politics.

“I also held discussion with RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on different topics but not on Maharashtra politics as you were expecting of. There was no specific talk on politics in Maharashtra where the Bharatiya Janata Party is in the process of Government formation. It was a routine visit during Diwali like every year. Yes we discussed many important issues barring the Maharashtra politics and the Chief Ministership,” Gadkari told reporters after emerging out of the building.

The meeting took place a day after Maharashtra BJP President Devendra Fadnavis, said to be a front-runner for the Chief Ministership, called on the RSS chief.

The Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari arrived at Sangh building in Mahal on a two-wheeler with a security personnel as pillion.

Bhagwat was out of Nagpur when Gadkari arrived from Delhi early this week to a grand reception from BJP workers.

Though initially reluctant to return to State politics, Gadkari added fuel to the speculation of being in the race for the top job when he said he was willing to take any responsibility entrusted by the party central leadership.

On Thursday, the former BJP President, who received Fadnavis at his residence on Diwali day, sought to clear the air on the issue, saying he was “happy” in Delhi.

Both Gadkari and Fadnavis, who also hails from Nagpur, are considered close to RSS, which is headquartered in the city.
