cm-visit-jailNagpur: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday paid a surprise visit to Nagpur central jail which has been in the news over the last few days for the escape of dreaded criminals and recovery of mobile phones.

“Just paid a surprise visit to Central Jail, Nagpur. A lot still needs to be done. Entire jail administration requires a revamp,” the CM tweeted from his official twitter handle after the visit.

The visit to the central prison was nowhere in the CM’s schedule when he landed at Nagpur airport on Monday morning.

However, on the way back to his home from the airport, he asked his driver to take the vehicle on the premises of the jail, surprising his personal assistants and security guards.

Five dreaded criminals had managed to escape and more than 100 mobile phones were recovered from the jail earlier this month.

Fadnavis was at the receiving end from his opponents over the deteriorating law and order situation in his hometown.

Some opposition leader also advised him to give up the state home department and to get a “full time” home minister.

The CM responded by saying that he was not “a part-time home minister” but an “overtime home minister.”
