CRPF Head Constable commits suicide; shoots himself in the chest

D. Hanumanth (48), a CRPF Head Constable attached to Tadgaon post in Aheri tehsil of Gadchiroli district has, reportedly, committed suicide by shooting himself with a rifle on Monday. As per the reports, the constable has shot himself in the chest with a rifle which belonged to a patrolling staff.

“A member of Battalion 8, he was a resident of Karnool in Andhra Pradesh and was going through a psychiatric treatment for unknown reasons. Thus, he was not assigned any operational duty or weapon currently. He shot himself using a patrolling colleagues rifle when the latter was in washroom”, informed Shriram Meena, Commandant of Battalion 37 and in charge of Battalion 8.

He further added that the deceased was seeking to have his posting in Hyderabad. However, according to the policies of CRPF, a constable, after the peace period has ended, has to serve in the field.

He had recently joined after a one month break to visit his hometown in Aheri.
